"The Golden Compass is a great entry into the Philip Pullman's book trilogy-- His Dark Materials. I always enjoy fantasy novels that mixes our world with the imaginative world of the author. The magic presented in the books are very unique to me. I had delayed reading this series for a while due to finishing other series. Once I started reading The Golden Compass, I wish that I had started reading this series a long time ago."

"Easily one of my all time favorite books, and still one of the best of all time. The later novels got a little farther away from the "guide" concept, but this has all the best jokes and really makes me want a real one, because it's so much fun. Eleventy billion stars, minus a few for style."

It is one of the best fantasy books out there and is quite famous because it was written by a NY Times bestselling author. This book gives me inspiration because it is a delightful way of showing human strength and courage. Spectacular book that kept me up all night reading it!"

"Unlike a lot of die hard fans I was introduced to LOTR from the feature film. I instantly fell in love with the series. I recently decided to visit the original novels , even though reading has never been a strong point of mine. The two towers was a amazing read. The best fantasy novel I've ever read and so much more detailed then the movie."

These books were marketed to the teen reader but are as applicable to adults as Tolkien. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes fantasy fare."

"If you have seen the movies and liked them, then reading the books will give you a ton more insight into the story. There is only so much of literature made into movies that actually reaches the big screen. The rest is in the text of the stories the movies come from."

"One of the best classic fantasy books ever, ranks up there with The Wizard of Oz. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has of course been made into two separate movies, but there are details in the book which don't make it onto the big screen in either of those. It's always good to read the original and appreciate the vision of the author. This book is a classic for good reason."
