DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the author of The Sandman series, Neil Gaiman wrote his fair share of fan fiction? Yes, you read that right! The award-winning novelist wrote a bunch of fanfics. Some of his fan fiction involved the Chronicles of Narnia, H.P. Lovecraft, and even Sherlock Holmes. Gaiman himself described his work "A Study in Emerald" as "Lovecraft/Holmes fan fiction." A Study in Emerald even won a Hugo Award for Best Short Story! Gaiman is one of many authors who created stories based on fictional or real people. Other famous authors you might've heard of also wrote fan fiction. These novelists include Meg Cabot, Cassandra Clare, and E.L. James, among many others. Writing fanfiction is a way to enhance your writing skills. Whether you're an avid reader or writer, there are top fanfiction sites you can try. What sets fanfic apart from contemporary fiction is that there is already a tightly-knit community. Fanfiction is a way for members of fandoms to engage with each other. It could be by sharing your slash fic to your followers or leaving a comment on the story. There's an interaction that comes with writing fanfiction on fanfiction websites. Fanfiction brings upon an instant rapport between the writer and reader. If you loved reading a paperback, it's not as easy to let the author know about it. But once you're done reading fanfiction, you can let the author know how you feel right away!

"Most of the fanfics in ao3 seem like they are written by published and reputable authors. Although writing fanfic is free and they don't earn anything from it, the stories I read on this site never fails to strike me. Many times I cry, I laugh, and I feel so much simply reading the fics. Not all the fics here are sfw but you just have to be wary and filter the tags you want well!"

"If ever I want to feel soft and loved, I read fluff fanfics on wattpad because they're so cute and endearing and sometimes I feel like i'm a leading lady in a rom com whenever i read the stories on there. Some of the stories are straight up cringey but honestly i don't feel like i'm wasting my time reading on."

"I don't tell anyone because they might laugh at me but I read a lot of Anime fanfiction on ff.net because sometimes they're even more interesting than the actual anime and i like getting perspectives from other fans through their stories. Honestly reading fanfics shouldn't be stigmatized, especially to men."

"You have to be specific on the tags on which fandom and fanfiction you want to read because there is just so much content on tumblr. I personally prefer getting tumblr fic recs from other users because in that way the fics are compiled and i don't have to spend so much time searching for new fics to read."

"Goodreads is more of a place where you can find published fan fiction like the After series that was heavily inspired by Harry Styles. I want new, unpublished as a book fics so this is not really what i had in mind although you can find great novels and reviews here!"
