Well, who said women can't take over the world, or even the universe? Even a couple decades ago, Marvel has already envisioned a planet where extraordinary females existed. Through Marvel's comics and TV shows, we've always been treated to a plethora of empowered women superheroes who are just as good, if not better, than everyone else. From mutants, spies, or simple civilians-turned femme fatales, the franchise has created these characters well. And with the Marvel Cinematic Universe taking over the world, we've seen even more female superheroes taking center stage. So, who's your favorite Marvel superhero gal? Well, here are some of the best female characters that the franchise has created. Check them out!
The Marvel franchise has a penchant for mutant telepaths. And is there a more powerful female variety from that breed than Jean Grey? Well, we can all thank Professor X for bringing out the best in this once troubled kid by introducing her to the astral plane. You can always choose from the best versions of Jean Grey that there is and it won't change a thing. Whether you like her as the young Marvel Girl or the dark and dangerous Phoenix, she's always going to be one of the best female Marvel characters to ever exist.
She's best known for her weather-altering capabilities and accolades for having saved the Black Panther himself. But there's more to Storm than that. Born to a Kenyan princess, she struggled upon her parents' tragic death, which forced her to become a thief in order to survive. However, thanks to some great writing by Marvel's creative minds, she found her way to the X-Men. And just like Jean Grey, she went on to become one of the most feared female mutants that Marvel has created.
Yes, one of Marvel's best female characters is indeed a villain. Well, that's because no other superhero would want to face off against the powerful and mysterious Mystique. This mutant metamorph can just be anything (literally) because of her ability to shift atoms and molecules of her body and of any clothing. No one really knows much about her past, aside from her being in love with Sabretooth and being a surrogate mother to Rogue. However, it's really hard not to notice her unique blue appearance and scary capabilities.
This famous Marvel gal has probably seen it all and done it all. Well, she's been a Russian puppet, a spy, and ultimately, an Avenger. With so many great things about Natalia Romanova, there's no doubt as to why she has got her own movie. But honestly, Black Widow is one rare Marvel female character simply because she doesn't have one distinct super power to show off. Instead, she makes up for it with amazing battle skill, athletic ability, and of course, the "Widow's Bite", which can stun any given enemy. Isn't she so cool?
Rogue is a pretty amazing female Marvel character who happens to also have a pretty amazing backstory. She ran away from home at a young age only to discover her unique ability to absorb memories and powers. Well, she's a big name from the X-Men but did you know that she almost didn't make it to the group because of initial objections from fellow mutants? The good thing is that she was able to save Wolverine's fiancée, and that changed everything for her. We can just be thankful that Rogue was able to find herself in the good side of the story, far from the path her surrogate mother chose.
Psylocke will leave you in awe upon hearing about the tragic backstory that Marvel wrote for her. However, this girl's amazing mutant abilities are enough to overshadow all the negativity about her. Well, Betsy Braddock possesses tons of telepathic abilities, enabling her to read minds and even communicate mentally with others over long distances. And would you believe that she was brought back to life by her brother Jamie, who had reconstructed her to be immune to attacks meant to control her mind? She's one of Marvel's most underrated female characters, to be honest!
She's called 'Mockingbird' because of how she mocks and taunts her opponents when in battle. Yes, that's how cool and different Dr. Barbara Morse is. She's actually one of Marvel's most well-written characters which you can see just by looking at her background. She's a doctor, a trained S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who graduated at the top of her class, and she's very proficient in Kung Fu and Taekwondo. And also, there aren't many superheroes who can boast of having teamed up with Spider-Man. Well, she did!
Just so you know, Marvel created this female counterpart to Spider-Man to prevent rivals from capitalizing on the latter's success. And of course, they did it pretty well! Spider-Woman has been one of the most unidentifiable characters from the whole Marvel franchise, simply because there were too many people who took on the identity. However, you can always look at the character's first incarnation, Jessica Drew, and you'll see why the name can stand on its own even without Peter Parker backing it up.
Ooops, you can't comment at this time. We can't wait to hear your voice again soon!
