"Mystery fiction novel set in Ireland written by Emma Donoghue. An eleven-year-old girl stops eating, but remains miraculously alive and well. A nurse, sent to investigate whether she is a fraud, meets a journalist hungry for a story. Set in the Irish Midlands in the 1850s, Emma Donoghue's The Wonder - inspired by numerous European and North American cases of 'fasting girls' between the sixteenth century and the twentieth - is a psychological thriller about a child's murder threatening to happen in slow motion before our eyes."

"This seems to check off the boxes that I wanted it to. Fits all of the aspects of what I want in a book so that makes this a really solid solution and I like that. Very nice job here of trying to give me what I want."

"I read Sushi for Beginners and I was very much disappointed. The story is bubbly and floaty, more style than substance. I would recommend steering clear of this book."

"I think that some people will either love this book or they won't. I personally found it a little bit hard to relate to but I have a friend of mine that swears up and down that this is the best book they ever read, so I think it depends on who you are. The settings and descriptions were my favorite part of the book but I found it hard to get into the characters. "

"You could do a lot worse than read this book. However, you could also check out other fiction books like the harry potter series which are far better paced than this is. Was still pretty fair overall."

"This book has one of the most complex, but engaging, and well-written, plots I've read in a long time. Full of suspense, I kept flipping the pages to see what was going to happen next. This is like Nancy Drew, or Hardy Boys, but for more the adult crowd. Tana French really captures her native Dublin well in her descriptions throughout the book. I will say, though, that the ending was pretty anti-climatic, so be prepared for that."

"This excellent novel was written by Maeve Binchy, one of my favorite authors. Set with fictional characters, her character development makes for a very believable setting. And despite being set in the mid 1950s, they are so relatable. "
