"One of my favorite books ever. This was my first real foray into 'serious' literature and I've loved it for years. Truly beautiful book and it sparked my love for magic realism, though I've never found anything quite as good as this one. Only downside is some of the characters are hard to keep track of, given the similar names, but I can't even mark it down for that."

"This is a really great book. It follow two young lovers and the trials they go through. They are very much in love when they are young, but one decides to marry someone else and it is heartbreaking for the other. It is a really hard story to read at times, especially if you have ever had your heart broken. A really good read full of emotion."

"When you think about epics generally Latin authors do not readily come to mind. This book will change that for you. Bolano has written a beautifully intricate tome of a book that will stay with you long after you turn the last page. It is daunting to start but worth every minute."

"I believe "Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair" would be a good choice for fiction books by Latin authors. The Latin culture is often romanticized, and this is a genre that many people would eagerly consume, especially the women. It also helps that the poet is renowned. "

"I'm not sure if one could call this one of the absolute best works ever written by a Latin author, but it is quite good, albeit pretty depressing at times. It sort of resembles some traditional fairly tales many people are familiar with, combined with elements of the author's native culture and certain kind of magical themes. I have to say, in general, I really enjoy how it combines the familiar and the unusual. I'd recommend the book, or, if you are pressed for time, the movie, at least."
