"While I enjoyed this book very much, I know that people with a more Christian bent will probably not because for many of them the content with the sorcery and witchcraft type themes would be considered demonic. This would not be a good choice for them. "

"The Magician's Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia) is the best fiction books for young Christians. This is a beautiful paperback box set of the Narnia collection, that so many of us grew up with. The covers are nice, thick and protective of the pages inside, which are of good paper stock. I have no print fading or errors that I've noticed."

"This book is not really a good start for young Christians. It has more in common with medieval fantasy than any Christian work or lore. It could confuse young Christians and make them even more puzzled about their faith. "

"In this book we follow a new protagonist, Oree, a blind street artist, in a new but familiar setting, the shadow of Sky. I guess in case some people haven't read The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms I shouldn't get into any more detail than that. Lets just say, the setting is as natural and as thrilling as it was in the last book, though you get to see it from a new perspective because the protagonist is blind. It was very interesting reading a blind character. I don't recall reading blind characters very often. Jemisin did a very good job of portraying this. I thought that reading only about scents and smells and touch and impressions would be confusion and oblique, but I definitely learned while reading this that there are other ways of portraying environment. One thing that bothered me is that while The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms had more interesting and complex villains, the villains in this book were more of the ordinary fare. Kind of surprising considering Jemisin's love of the extraordinary. However, given the over arcing story lines going on in the trilogy, this plot doesn't take away from the complexity of the book. It may be that Jemisin thought that if this plot was more complex it would take away from the broader action going on."

"This is more a book for overcoming fear than a religious book. Specifically, geared toward overcoming fear of thunderstorms, but could be applied differently. It is geared toward younger children. Good book, but the category is not spot on."

"This is very much a secular book. It is a good read. However if a Christian is looking to read this for Christian principles they will be disappointed. It does explore good character which is a Christian principle in a loose sense. "

"As a young, christian mother of four, I bought this book seeing that it was in the top listings for young christian readers. Trusting it's rating, I bought this for my son. The next thing I knew, he was wanting to watch Harry Potter and all these other movies with dark, magical themes. I had no idea witchcraft was considered Christian! All this magic and voodoo in the book has tainted my son and I worn all other mothers to heed my warning! He's even chasing me around now shouting Riddikulus at me! I don't even know what that means!"
