DID YOU KNOW?

Despite flashcards being dubbed as one of the most boring ways to study, did you know that it engages active recall? What does activDe recall mean? Dear parents and teachers, a huge part of educating young children is understanding how the brain works. Active recall is the brain's process of remembering concepts from scratch. How is this different from other learning methods? It is different in such a way that it involves much deeper mental activity compared with just a multiple choice type of exam. Experts say that active recall creates stronger neuron connections. Yet, it doesn't come easy for some kids. So repetitive flashcard exercises are encouraged to build more connections and improve visual memory. Interestingly, did you know that flashcards are useful for language learning as well? Since these cards are used to make associations, relating a known word to its foreign counterpart makes it easier for them.

Perhaps the fun part of all these is parents and teachers do not need to buy or make cards anymore. Thanks to some of the best flashcard apps, you can utilize your tablets and smartphones to become a learning tool. For the aspiring Mathematicians, there are math workout games that you can try to hone your kid's basic arithmetic skills. With all these, it is just amazing to think that despite technological advancements, the old-school ways of learning have remained in-tact by nature.
