DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that Counter-Strike, usually shortened to CS, was originally a mod for Half-Life? Counter-Strike is a series of multiplayer first-person shooter video games wherein a team of counter-terrorist forces fight against terrorist forces in different maps with varying objectives. Originally a mod designed for Half-Life, Valve Corporation eventually acquired the rights to the game’s intellectual property from the designers Minh Le and Jess Cliffe, whereupon they were employed by Valve. First-person shooters (FPS) have been around for around 47 years now and they have had their fair share of ups and downs in the gaming industry. But thanks to the brilliant game designers, FPS has always found its way back in the limelight. In fact, Counter-Strike is an old-school classic but it is still one of the best free FPS games of all time. The developers have never stopped working on it. The original game was followed by Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and Counter-Strike: Source, both released only 8 months apart in 2004. CS: Source was a remake of the original and was the first in the series to run on Valve’s newly created Source engine. 8 years later, the 4th game in the series, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released in 2012 for Windows, OS X, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, while the Linux version was released in 2014

The CS: Global Offensive professional scene consists of tournaments hosted by third-party organizations and groups and Valve-organized or co-sponsored tournaments, usually referred to as majors. Majors have larger prize pools. Although pools were originally set at $250,000, they have risen significantly, with MLG Columbus 2016 offering a $1 million dollar prize pool.
