"This is a simple and easy to use voice recording app for OSX on Macs. The ease of use makes its one of the best ones out there, and the price is right since it's FREE. You just assign a hotkey to record and you're up and running, so much less hassle than opening a program."

"Since I love music, I was looking for a free audio recorder for my Mac. Audacity was suggested to me and I found that it not only works well, but allows me to better enjoy my music. It enables me to use my Mac for music recording in a way I never could do before."

Did you know that the first sound recording was an accident? It was done on an instrument called the phonautograph invented by Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville in 1857. The apparatus was designed to trace vibrations received by the machine’s cylinder onto paper. Scott de Martinville at that time only meant for the recording to be read and traced instead of being heard. At most, the inventor imagined an “automatic stenographer” that could transcribe in real time. The first-ever recorded sound done by the instrument is that of a singing woman. She was singing a song titled Au Clair De La Lune which is about a boy searching for candles and writing instruments by knocking on the doors of his neighbor.

Although there was a lack of intent on his part, it was still a huge feat for the inventor because the phonautograph existed about 20 years before the first telephone call by Alexander Graham Bell. The phonautograph may not have done what he had in mind but his failure paved the way to even more innovative devices that have contributed to the improvement of our daily lives. People could not play the track back until the phonograph created by Thomas Edison in 1877. Today, sound recording is as easy as downloading a program on handle devices like some of the best and free audio recorders for Mac users  (you can read about on this list). Mankind can now enjoy listening to high-quality recordings with good-quality speakers, and even record voices on the go with some voice-recording apps for iPhone due to this welcome accident done by Scott de Martinville.

"Looking for something that can record easily so I can use my new mic, I started searching for the best free audio recorders for Mac. I ended up getting Apowersoft Audio Recorder and while I had high hopes, this failed to meet expectations. The sound recording is very grainy and will randomly stop recording. Unfortunately, I have to look elsewhere for an audio recorder program. "
