DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that the first multiplayer game was invented in 1958? Physicist and electrician William Higinbotham invented the Tennis for Two video game in 1958. The game was made using an oscilloscope with custom aluminium controllers. The idea stemmed when Higinbotham worked on the device that displayed moving lines. Tennis was his first choice due to the oscilloscope captured the motions of a ball in midair. After a few hours, him and his team managed to finish the game and named it Tennis for Two. The finished result was a tennis game viewed from the side made up of bright lines and a ball. The game wasn't as pleasing to view as modern games, but it managed to awe exhibition attendees.
This undoubtedly became an inspiration for plenty of multiplayer games today, both free and paid. Plenty of these modern adaptations are available on PCs and consoles. One of the consoles that offer these multiplayer games is the PlayStation, with great success. Plenty of free PS4 games have hit the market and have proven to be as good as the ones that need payment. This fact is further proven by Fornite, a free to play game available on all platforms, winning two awards during the 2018 Game Awards. The game took home the Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer awards this year. All these recognition, coupled with Fortnite's growing player base, further proves that PS4 free to play games are still going strong.
