WHAT’S THE MEANING?

A gacha game is a video game that uses a monetization mechanism to get exclusive content. It uses an in-game currency where the player 'spins' the gacha and gets rewarded with a random item. The player also gets persuaded to use real money to trade it with the in-game currency for the chance of more 'spins.' The term ‘gacha’ comes from the Japanese word gachapon (?????). It is a variety of vending machine that dispenses capsule toys. The word is a combination of two onomatopoeic sounds: gacha and pon. The word ‘gacha’ is the sound made when the vending machine is hand-cranked. While ‘pon’ is the sound that the capsule toy makes when it lands in the collection tray.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know players are spending thousands of dollars in Gacha games? Unfortunately, Gacha games can be addictive like real gambling. Why? Because it can make players want to progress in a game by spending real money to cut the time of earning rewards. Of course, not every Gacha game is like this. Some are even generous or give out free units. But regardless of this, the core concept will still be to encourage players to spend real money. On the bright side, players who have self-control do not have to worry about overspending. Yet, the so-called "whales" are players who have no issue of spending thousands on Gacha items. Indeed, it is fine to play and enjoy these games. Many players argue that overspending while harmful supports funding their favorite game series. But, always remember you can spend money on these games but you don't need to become broke over them. If you want you can try these mobile games with character creation instead.
