"Though not as intricate as the PC version of Civilization, the gameplay, graphics, and the features in the game definitely make it one of the best mobile games like civilization in the market for me imho."

"Excellent turn-based strategy 4x game with a lot of depth. Yeah this is free but you'll definitely be tempted to get in-app purchases in order to enjoy playing it more. I have been spending a lot on this but worth the money. "

Civilization was once ranked as the 11th-most important video games of all time by the website GamePro, and the highest among 4X-type games in the list. Many of history's 4X-type games (which require players to explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) were influenced by Civilization. Its creator, Sid Meier, has been lauded many times and was labeled as an auteur for his design of the game. In interviews, Meier claimed he based the game on similar god games like the first version of the Sims and Populous. The game was available in many platforms and received great reviews for its simple and entertaining gameplay. After a preview, it was called as an Olympian in the genre of god games in the Computer Gaming World, which ranked Civilization as the best game of all time in 1996. The game was also awarded the Origins Award - Best Military or Strategy Computer Game of 1991, and was included in New York Times' Game Canon list in 2007. Meier's creation did so well commercially that it paved the way for numerous sequels, as Civilization II was released in 1996, followed by Civilization III in 2001, then Civilization IV (2005), Civilization V (2010) and Civilization VI (2016).

"I have been playing Civilization on my computer for many years and wanted to play something similar on my iPhone. I found the game Crimson: Steam Pirates and it's a whole lot of fun. It's a strategy game just like Civilization. It's pretty detailed and very well made. Many real time strategy games have some exploits that make the game unfair, but this one seems to be pretty balanced as one of the best free strategy games for iPhone."

"Why is Forge of Empires not on the top 3 of this page? Come on this is a good alternative to Civilization for mobile users as it has all the basic function. Aside from enabling you to build your city this allows me to explore new lands and build ties with my neighbors. Amazing eh? "

"Simple yet stunning substitute game to Civilization. THis game never fails to impress. I played this a couple of years ago because nothing new was able to be done. After coming back to it last week, though, I found out they added a ton of new stuff and it got me addicted to it again. I'll make sure to improve my army in this one, even greater than my old one. "

"There are a lot of great games for phones and tablets that are reminiscent of Age of Empires and Civilization, and I wanted to check out one of the lesser known titles, Great Little War Game. It's not a lot like these old classics, though. It has a much more modern feel and there's a lot of emphasis on battles, not on building up. "
