DID YOU KNOW?
Supercell is a freemium game company and operates on a specific business model? Freemium means premium quality games that are free. The game company originated in Finland back in 2010 with Ilkka Paananen as its CEO. It has made many hit games but the one that put it on the map was their hit app in 2012, Clash of Clans (COC). The game released on iOS to critical success. It would release for Android the following year. This has solidified its place as one of the best strategy games in the mobile space. How, then, did the company and game turn a profit? Well, as is with most freemium games, it's with in-app purchases. Clash of Clans offers in-game currency and items that players can buy using real-world money. Their game will progress faster and get an edge over others. Playing the game without spending is plausible though and is still enjoyable.
Game developers have tried to mimic the Clash of Clans formula and experience ever since. Dawn of Titans is a great example taking inspiration from COC and adding their unique twist. This game is a definite visual step-up and it also offers much better control over stops and assets. Supercell made other hit games after like Clash Royale and Brawl Stars. Better games like Clash of Clans will be released in the future, that's for sure. But, the original will always have a special place in the history of the company and in the minds of its gamers.
