But, when the game’s creators Epic Games noticed the success of PC game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), which pits 100 players against each other in a last-man-standing battle. Epic decided to release a new version of Fortnite featuring a very similar game play. Hence, Fortnite: Battle Royale was released. The game is a free digital download available on all video game platforms from PC to PS4, and smartphones. This meant everyone interested in PUBG, but didn't own a PC could play something similar for free. Moreover, Fortnite has dominated platforms like Twitch and YouTube. It comes as YouTubers and streamers broadcast themselves playing the game. This made Fortnite, the most watched game on major streaming service Twitch. The game also became the subject of many memes and news articles.
No doubt, Fortnite is the most popular video game in the world right now. Part of its popularity is due to its perfect battle royale genre. This resulted in the booming popularity of more battle royale games. As a result, more people started looking for games like PUBG, and games like Fortnite.
