DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that Gears of War, one of the best selling shooting video game series, became highly successful not only because of its captivating backstory but also because of its badass main protagonist, Marcus Fenix? Fenix is the main character in many of the editions in the sci-fi action RPG series, Gears of War. He is a disgraced soldier on a path to both redeem himself and save humanity from mystic hostile arachnid monsters called Gheists while cursing everyone who gets in his way. The terrifying warrior is not only accepted as one of the best Gears of War characters, but he is also regarded as one of the manliest and the fiercest characters in video game history, period! In the year of the game’s release, popular critic magazine IGN selected the futuristic bulky killing machine as one of the characters needed to be included in an ultimate crossover versus-mode fighting game in one of their articles. “If giant, hulking muscles, and a foul tongue are all one needs to fit in with the fighting game crowd, then we might as well hand over the trophy to Marcus Fenix.” Fenix is so well loved that developers thought it best to keep him as one of the most important Gears of War 4 characters, alongside his son, JD Fenix.
But like how not everyone is pleased to see the designs of many Gears of War 4 character skins, there is a well-represented minority in the gaming community that hates Marcus Fenix and his shoot-and-curse-at-everyone philosophy. UK-based game reviewer Computer and Video Games named Fenix as the 9th worst character in PC gaming, describing him as a mix between the deadly Deckard and the depressed donkey, Eeyore.
