WHAT’S THE MEANING?
Simulation games are a differing category of games that imitate realistic settings. Simulation games vary by type but they let players experience real-world situations. The aim of game developers for these games is to let the players control the environment on their own. Case in point, a helicopter simulation game let players experience how to maneuver a plane. It gives a good glimpse of what it's like to handle certain scenarios.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that a school-shooting simulation video game has been pulled out from Steam after it has received flaks from the parents of the victims of the Parkland shooting incident? According to The Independent, a British online newspaper, an online petition that garnered 200, 000 signatures has taken down the action game. Although experts from the American Psychological Association take a firm resistance against ‘violent’ video games, Whitney DeCamp has debunked the significant link between playing video games and aggressive behavior. Results of the study he conducted in Delaware School revealed that regardless of how violent or atrocious the video game is, it did not automatically predict violent behavior. Associate professor of the Department of Psychology at Stetson University attests to DeCamp’s finding. He added that violent video games may help lessen societal and domestic violence. At the end of the day, the American Psychological Association leaves the primary responsibilities to parents as they can help regulate the video consumption of their children. Amidst the issues surrounding violent games, simulation games in general, especially those that enhance the learning experiences of children are slowly transforming the academic diaspora.
