"A lot of books in this genre are much, much longer than they need to be, but the author of this series knows how to get to the point and keep the reader from drifting. Bits of magic realism appear within a medieval setting, so there is a lot to chew on. The author does a great job balancing many, many plotlines without losing the reader. "

"I really enjoyed reading this trilogy because of the depth of story and plot twists along the way. I personally enjoy the fact it takes a much darker approach to the fantasy genre, but I know it's not for everyone. Still, it kept me on the edge of my seat and I ended up reading all of the books over a long weekend, just so I could see what would happen to Simon."

"While I have intensely enjoyed J.R.R. Tolkien's other works, Lord of the Rings, this book is quite different. I can't say I read much of it, because it wasn't what I was looking for, which was a really fantastic fantasy novel. The kind with a brave hero, traveling the lands and encountering danger and excitement. As I did a sneak peek, this appears to be a book of poems, which isn't what I wanted. I'm sure it's good if that's your interest, but not a novel full of fantasy and bravery."

"This has been classified as the best heroic fantasy novel, and I disagree because it seems to be a comic book about a Ninja assassin. This is more of an action novel or comic rather than a hero story. Hero's come in many forms however the classification seems off to me. However I do really love the story line."
