"I really got into this book. I found myself wondering if it was actually fiction or was Ancient Rome really like this. I have read this book five times now during my subway rides to and from work. I don't even notice what's going on around me because the story just grabs you and pulls you right in. I feel like I am actually there, living in Ancient Rome. I feel like I know Marcus Cicero personally!"

"Ok book. The author is clearly a liberal, and spent way too much time drawing correlations between the battle itself and Nazi Germany, for some God awful reason. He also jabs the Gaul s, describing them as effete, even though they at one time actually sacked Rome, something these early Germans never did. There were some ridiculous analogies made, not worth the time to go into here, but if you can ignore the gross attempts at political correctness being adhered to by the thousandth degree, you might get a feeling for what too place in the depths of Germania."

"I am no expert on Roman history, but I got interested in it after reading Colleen McCullough's novels about the politics and the behind the scenes machinations of the "show" in the Forum. Colleen's books were a good primer to The Twelve Caesars. At the very least, I was able to get used to reading Roman names. The Twelve Caesar by Seutonius is a lot drier than the fictionalized version of McCullough's Rome. But it provides very good historical biographies of the Caesar's and provides some closure to McCullough's Masters of Rome series."
