"I was suspicious about new authors and how I would like this book, but it was very good. I enjoyed the portrayl of Spain and I felt I was going through all the motions the character was. "If you are a Ernest Hemingway fan, this collection is a great way to read into his lesser-known material. It has the same humor that his well-known works has, and the characters are more important than the setting in my opinion. So if you're worried about the setting being boring, no worries because the characters overshadow the setting."

"If you like historical fiction then Captain Alatriste is definitely a good choice. Set in Madrid, Spain in the 17th Century this story felt a lot like the Three Musketeers. Arturo Perez-Reverte is an excellent writer, and very knowledgeable about the time period, as he creates a story which is fiction but still feels authentic."

"Again, you can't reccomend a one off book by an author no one has heard of and expect it to be counted among the best books of a particular genre. I am sure that this book has its own merits and that her take on Katharine of Aragon's life is absolutely magnetic, but it simply can't stack up against books like "Don Quixote." Perhaps, one day it will, but not today."

"The Prisoner of Heaven, by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, is an outstanding historical fiction books set in Barcelona, Spain. Being Portuguese, I have been making it a priority to read works set in my home country, so this book unfortunately does not make the grade in that respect. Other than that disappointment, I had no issues with the story, as the characters were very interesting and well-developed."

"Although I knew it was a fiction book, I picked this up thinking that I could perhaps learn something about one of my friend's cultures - she was born in Portugal. This book definitely had its ups and downs. First of all, Portugal is a central location to the plot of the story, but I didn't really learn anything about the location, so that didn't really help me. Secondly, the characters in the book are only passively interesting. I think the author took more care to craft the plot, which is interesting, than developing the characters or the locale. If he had taken the time to develop and fully flesh everything out, I feel like this would have been a more enjoyable read, even if I didn't learn about my friend's place of birth."
