How I Met Your Mother (often abbreviated as HIMYM) is an American sitcom TV show created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays. The series ran on CBS from 2005 to 2014 with a total of 208 episodes spread across 9 seasons. The show follows its main character, Ted Mosby. He narrates the story of how he met the mother of his future children. From the present year, 2030, he goes into a flashback and starts in 2005. Ted Mosby was then a 27-year-old living in New York City and working as an architect. The story revolves around him and his closed group of friends. They are the long-lasting couple Marshall Eriksen and Lily Aldrin. Then, there is the womanizing playboy Barney Stinson. Lastly, there is the Canadian news reporter Robin Scherbatsky to round out the group.
Fun fact, the series was actually inspired the real-life experiences and friendship of its creators, Thomas and Bays. The series premiered to generally positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. Comparisons were inevitably made between it and long-time fan favorite, Friends. While most still prefer the latter show, HIMYM was considered a great show in its own right. The finale of season 2 of the show saw Marshall and Lily finally tying the knot at their wedding. Meanwhile, Ted and Robin had an announcement that they wanted to make after the wedding and it had something to do with their relationship and how it seems to have arrived at a crossroads. With talk of what the future holds for them, Robin, being who she is, said "I don't know where I'm gonna be in five years. I don't wanna know. I want my life to be an adventure."
Robin and Barney tries to get one in before the elderly guests arrive at their wedding. Meanwhile, Ted hands Lily a list of things that he wants to do in New York before he leaves and moves to Chicago. As has always been the case with their friendship, Ted gets a life lecture from Lily and through it all, she says, "Say goodbye to all the times you felt lost, to all the times it was a No instead of a Yes, to all the scrapes and bruises, to all the heartache."
Ted gets the major case of the deja vu as he goes on a blind date with someone that he later realizes was the same person he went on a date with seven years ago. They went to discuss what happened all those years ago that made such a bad impression. Barney Stinson, being the womanizing playboy that he is, has spouted some very interesting and funny lines throughout the show. Despite this, there are times when he can a source of wisdom and it was the case when the gang goes with him and James to seek out his possible biological father but turned out to James'. Having been disappointed yet again, he comes to a realization that "It’s time to let go of the fantasies. It’s time to grow up."
Marshall is the loving, caring, and emotional big guy and he is often teased about it by the group. He is very passionate about what he does and cares deeply for his friends and family.
