It is available for all major platforms and comes ready to tackley all of your web programming needs with built in Javascript and Node.js support. "Atom was the text editor that changed my life more than Jesus did when I discovered religion. It is an absolutely amazing text editor and the only text editor that I have found that is a cross platform editor. I have finally been able to do some of my work at home since Atom gives me the text compability between my Linux PC at work and my Windows PC at home. "

"IntelliJ IDEA has helped me so much when developing (and not just for Node.js). It helps me be more productive when writing code. The tools that it provides ensures that I'm not wasting my time looking into the small details of code and can instead focus on the big picture."

An integrated development environment, or IDE, is a software that compiles the necessary tools used by developers for writing and testing software. IDEs usually have a code editor, compiler, interpreter, and a debugger, which are all accessible through a single graphical user interface. The first IDE was a part of the Dartmouth Time Sharing System and was command-based, unlike the current versions of IDEs where developers see menu-type of capabilities and options. IDEs like IntelliJ IDEA and Visual Studio Code are not coding software but are tools to help developers manage their work.

Did you know that Node.js was created by software engineer Ryan Dahl because he was irked by a progress bar on Flickr? In 2009, Dahl wanted to see a better progress bar because the one on Flickr is slow and he had to ask the Web server to know how much of his files have been uploaded. So, Dahl created Node.js, an open-source and cross-platform JavaScript run-time environment that helps execute JavaScript code server-side. He first introduced the software at the first European JSConf in 2009, and he later combined Google's V8 JS engine, an event loop, and a low-level I/O API using his software. Dahl left Node.js in 2012, citing that he wants to focus on other projects. Isaac Schlueter, the man who created the Node.js package manager called the npm, was promoted as project manager, though Dahl remains as a consultant.
