"People tend to either hate this movie or love it in a Springtime-for-Hitler fashion, which I guess it was deliberately intending to evoke. (The plot features an absurd situation – a man will be turned into a lobster if he does not find love – and the character reactions to it form the basis of the “humor”, which is extremely dry and deadpan.) I take a middle ground; it didn’t really make me feel anything. I don’t usually appreciate absurdist humor, though, so I guess I’m not the target audience. For me it was just exceedingly dull and uneventful. I only actually watched about half of this, I made excuses and left in the middle. It’s possible there was some grand statement/wrap-up at the end, but nobody who watched the whole thing can tell me what it is. There’s also apparently an animal cruelty scene in the second half that a lot of people found really off-putting. Don’t watch this one with the kids, if at all. On the “Indie” front – production values aren’t great. Actors do a decent job with what they’re given. Script is second-rate."

"I enjoy this film very much. Not only does it have a compelling story but often times there can be certain details that can be missed on the first viewing, encouraging you to look a little closer the next time you watch it. Certain times you may think to yourself where Donnie's reality ends and where actual reality begins. Is what he's seeing actually there? Is he sick? Are they just illusions? Its a great watch."

"When I first read Philip K. Dick books, I thought they were awesome but it sucks that there's no way to translate all that to screen. Then I saw A Scanner Darkly. Beautiful movie, both visually and story wise. Also some really great actors in it. Incredibly unique. Definitely worth a watch."

"You have to play this movie more than once to really pick up on everything happening. So much twisted stuff happens to this poor women. You can't help but feel sorry for her as her son dives deeper into the world of drugs and crime."

"This was not exactly what i was looking for, i wanted an indie art house movie. This movie has Jim Carrey and though it is not a big budget production and is an indie it does not fit the genre of what i was looking for."
