Did you know that not turning your airplane mode while on the plane on will not necessarily harm the passengers of the flight? The interference doesn't happen every time a phone is on inside an airplane. However, transmitting cell phones can cause audible interference on the aircraft's radio. It is like hearing a "dit-dit-dit-dit" tone, the same sound whenever a phone is set near a speaker.
Airplane mode also helps on charging your phone faster, roaming and searching for nearby Wi-Fi or GPS uses up quite a bit of power, so airplane mode stops your smartphone from looking for signal connections. With those functions disabled, the energy it would be using stays in the battery, making your smartphone focus its attention solely on recharging. It also helps whenever you are having trouble getting signal or mobile Internet issues, switching airplane mode on and off again can help you regain carrier settings like restarting the whole system. It also will stop any additional downloads regarding apps with in-app purchases. Even with the airplane mode on, your alarms and reminders will still work, with emails, however, you might still be able to read messages in your Inbox and even be able to compose an email but it won't be actually sent, instead it'll wait in your outbox or draft.
