As of July 2017, the Chromecast has users close to 37 million users. This is second only to the Roku which is still the top choice for most users in the connected-TV device space. Considering that the Chromecast was first introduced in 2013, these are good numbers. US sales figures are strong and will only grow once international sales get added to the mix. Despite the early adopter phase of the product, it had a lot of potentials. This proved to be true with its early success with Android users. It was an instant hit that worked well with their devices out of the box. With increased app support, iOS users benefited too with streaming apps for iPhone. The development for iPhone apps for streaming to Chromecast began to rise. This allowed users from Apple camp to enjoy the devices and stream to Chromecast from an iPhone.
Google is set to do the same with the smart speaker market. A market where, until recently, was being dominated by Amazon's Echo. Within a year since it's release, the Google Home Mini has overtaken Amazon's Echo by a huge margin. From a dominating 80% market share down to 27.7% during the 1st quarter of this year. A huge factor playing in Google's favor is the fact that it has the best AI assistant in the market. It was only natural to integrate this with its latest smart home device offerings. For now, Google is in a good spot and will be until other competitors catch up with innovation or better pricing.
