"I've been using Facebook Messenger forever. It never occurred to me that I'd consider this an iPhone messaging app. But, it's right. The app just works, it might collect a little more info about you than you'd like..but it's always reliable."

"What's not to like, it's FREE! This app lets you do it all with just the contacts already in your phone. And, if have data caps, it's a must. It allows me to send text messages with photos and videos from my smartphone, bypassing your wireless carrier's SMS and MMS charges. It's a Facebook product, so somethings are linked, but can be used with a Facebook profile. ONe minor annoyance is frequent updates that take forever, but other than that, you can't go wrong for free!"

"I'm a huge fan of Google Hangouts. I would often chat on gmail, then realized Hangouts lets you chat without being at your computer. It's an excellent way to stay in touch with people at work, since they can communicate from gmail on their computer without having to look at their phone."

"Skype used to be great, but after being purchased by Microsoft it seems to have really gone downhill. There are a lot of bugs and support is essentially useless. I found myself using Facetime more and more until finally I just removed Skype altogether. "

"Every update this app gets worse. The chat looks so horrible with the bright white background that CAN'T be changed. Video chat is just stupid and doesn't work. If I want to video chat someone I'll go to Skype. Even if I would go to kik I couldn't because the chat always disconnects after 5 minutes of talking. It will say it's a network problem but it's obviously kik devs not caring about their app or users. "

"Viber is a great alternative to normal texting. Texting through your internet connection is feature particularly useful when traveling overseas. I recently took a vacation where I was able to stay in touch with family without having to pay extra for out of country data. The app will also allow for phone and video calls - a free feature if used over wifi. No matter the distance! Overall I'm happy with the reliability and security this messaging app provides. "

"There is a huge variety of messaging apps for iPhone, as well as Android platforms but Google Allo is among the good ones. The first and foremost reason of it being good is that it is available on different platform to make it accessible for a large number of people. After all, messaging apps are all about community and society. If you are the only user of a messaging app, it loses its purpose. This app however, has many active users, which is great! "
