What are the best isekai mangas?

Anime is a far-reaching medium of entertainment that offers a wide variety of genres and sub-genres. Of them, is the fantasy genre that has been so popular for many years. Under it, is one particular sub-genre that fans love and it is called "Isekai". It has been really popular in light novels, manga, anime, and even video game titles. Isekai works center around a normal person from Earth being transported to, reborn, or trapped in a parallel universe, a fantasy world. As far as the actual person is concerned, they can be a NEET, a shut-in, or common in this genre, a gamer. The knowledge and skills that were comparatively unimportant in the real world, take on more meaning and use in the fantasy world. It is with the use of this knowledge and skills that they are able to survive, thrive even, in their new environment.

The concept of isekai can be traced back to ancient Japanese literature. Urashima Taro is a story that is known by many isekai writers and became one of their inspirations. To give you a better picture, some of the earliest manga and anime titles were Fushigi Yugi, The Twelve Kingdoms, and Magic Knight Rayearth. More recent ones are the .hack and Sword Art Online franchises. If you're taking an interest in this genre and want to read more about it, there are plenty of top isekai manga to choose from. DID YOU KNOW

Did you know that there is a rising genre for stories set in an alternate universe? In Japanese manga, isekai is this genre. Isekai is where usually, ordinary teenagers get transported to an alternate universe. This universe is most likely a fantasy or sci-fi universe. Among the most popular isekai anime titles is Sword Art Online, a role-playing game (RPG) manga and anime. From a 2017 Geode poll in Japan, among the fave isekai animes were: Sword Art Online, Pop in Q, World Trigger, Magic Knight Rayearth, Spirited Away, The Twelve Kingdoms, KonoSuba, Kyo Kara Maoh!, Re:Zero, and Gate.

Isekai's popularity grew that many isekai mangas got into bookstores for selling. The genre is particularly appealing to teens or even nostalgic adults. With isekai, a NEET, gamer or a shut-in gains fictional powers. They use these powers to overcome challenges in their fantasy world.

Despite this genre's fame, a Japanese publishing house banned entries with isekai. Kadokawa did not want pieces with teenage protagonists. It wanted light novel entries featuring "the lifestyle of cool adults." Furthermore, Western classics might fall into isekai genre although not yet known at the time. Centuries old stories such as Wizard of Oz, Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan are some notable examples.

"Pretty decent isekai series with almost the same concept as That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime. It's enjoyable to read if you don't over-analyze it but in terms of critiques, it's severely lacking. The art also has a lot of potentials."

"This one is actually a chinese manga but don’t mind cause it’s pretty good. It's a fun read about an overpowered kid. It's a generic overpowered underdog story where he proves everyone wrong. It starts to go downhill after chapter 300 ish."

"This is defintiely my favorite reincarnation story, Rudy's personality is really cheeky and you can tell that he's trying to be a better person than he was in his past life. I also loved the setting of the manga and the pacing as well."

"This is definitely a story that works better in novel format - the isekai manga feels too much like an info-dump. I felt like there is too much text and not enough action which is a downer since this one is a good read too."
