"I realized how beautiful he is when I looked at him holding a guitar! His performance as Johnny Cash is really promising. No wonder this movie made him nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars. This movie also made me realized that as a musician, it is okay to try to sound someone that you are not for in continuous playing, you will then realize that below the superficiality, your real sound will resonate."

"It is amazing how the characters were beautifully woven as the movie goes along. The first time I watched this movie I really didn't get the deeper meaning of their roles as this is set in 1921, NYC. Anyway, James Gray really brought out the best in Joaquin Phoenix in this movie. Gray amd Phoenix were so in sync that they made sure the character of Bruno Weiss will appear as tragic as it should be."

"Whoa there. Joaquin Phoenix effortlessly pulled of his Theodore Twombly character in here. I swear just by looking at the eyes of Phoenix, you could really feel the loneliness that he's exuding--I suddenly felt broken-hearted as his marriage crumbled. People would think this is a nonsense story but hell, give it a try because I really fell in love with him. Yet his best performance!"

"This movie should definitely one of the best movies of Joaquin Phoenix. For me, this is his most well-known movie. I mean, this created a hallmark in the film industry and garnered him his first Oscar nomination. I actually saw how he transformed from being a child actor who used to assume minor roles to an actor who is immersed with bolder character and adult role."

"Although the tragic state outside the hotel was seen in glimpses, I think the zoom-lens footage shot by Joaquin Phoenix (he was an american journalist in this movie), was powerful enough to emphasize the horror outside the hotel compound. No role is small for him :D"

"IDK but I think Joaquin Phoenix had only one appearance in this TV show. The episode title if im not mistaken is The Rise and Fall of Pall the Wall. His performance was not stellar as he appeared as Daniel, a role that was not that major. I still love him tho"

"The preteen stage of Joaquin Phoenix in this movie is the one I love the most. He was so young in this film that I almost forgot it was atually him. As a child, he was able magnify the fact that the character is emotionally distant from his family."

"Joaquin Phoenix has always had a penchant for portraying intimidating, intense, and menacing characters in movies. This is one of his earlier works and we get to see a more reserved and restrained but no less great performance."

"Definitely one of the most underrated films of the 90s! It epitomized black comedy. Joaquin Phoenix on one hand, brilliantly portrayed the character of Jimmy and really showed how it is to be a vulnerable highschool kid."
