No wonder this movie made him nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars. This movie also made me realized that as a musician, it is okay to try to sound someone that you are not for in continuous playing, you will then realize that below the superficiality, your real sound will resonate."

The first time I watched this movie I really didn't get the deeper meaning of their roles as this is set in 1921, NYC. Anyway, James Gray really brought out the best in Joaquin Phoenix in this movie. Gray amd Phoenix were so in sync that they made sure the character of Bruno Weiss will appear as tragic as it should be."
