"This book is plagued with tons of editing issues. The formatting is the worst that I've seen in a book in decades. The chemistry between the two characters takes so long to develop that you're asleep before anything good happens. This is a book for young adults or something of the sort but not actual adults."

"I had to read this in school and I didn't like it very much then. I recently gave it another try and really enjoyed it. Walker's narrative gives an in-depth picture of the struggles that a young black woman had to deal with in the south during the early/middle 20th century. I really empathized with Celie and what she had to deal with. A great read!"

"My goodness, what atrocious grammar, spelling and misuse of words. If the author chose a city such as DES Moines, why not check the spelling. Throughout the entire book she used DE Moines. Why not choose a city whose name she can spell? Then she misuses YOUR for YOU'RE and visa versa along with multiple other almost criminal spelling errors.... and worst of all she referred to the MAN giving a massage as MASSEUSE - more than once! Masseur is the male counterpart of a Masseuse. The book started out with the friction between the 2 main characters which predictably will end up with them in bed - a given, we expect this. The end of the book was so abrupt and the middle was not very intriguing. I knew that the father's assistant was involved almost as soon as she was introduced but I persevered with the hope that something would disprove my suspicion. But, alas, no such luck."

"Pardon my French, but this book is basically textual smut. There are no redeeming literary qualities here. It's designed and written to be as titillating as possible, but the attempt just smacks of desperation. If you want porn, go on the Internet. We read books for something deeper! "

"I tried to read The Spanish Pearl but I thought it was totally unreadable. The main characters are zapped back in time to deal with 11th century Spain, and somehow they go on a series of exciting adventures. Entirely too fantastical and escapist."

"Water Witch is a lesbian romance novel that I found to be simply ok. The plotline is pretty contrived and the sex scenes are pedestrian. I couldn't really get into this one, even though I tried. It's pirates even!"

    #8On Loving Women

    On Loving Women

This book is a collection of stories about lesbian women, and how did they come out to everyone as who they really were. As it is a comic, the book also contains drawings of many of these scenes, mainly focused in the early stages of homosexuality.

"I really wanted to enjoy this book, but the short stories in the book are childish and cringeworthy. I can understand using comedy to lessen the stigma around homosexuality, but the comedic elements of the book are stereotypical and overused. As a person with many gay friends, I wouldn't recommend this book to them."

"My friend just insisted, just absolutely insisted, I had to read this book. She wouldn't stop going on and on about how amazing it was. So I gave it a try, and I have to say I wasn't too impressed. It tries to tell a believable story, but takes a lot of unbelievable liberties just to get where the writer wanted to go. A disabled soldier, but it's only sight so there's nothing icky about stuff missing from her body. And she's cute, of course. Plus, she has an eye transplant operation, which isn't even a thing, so she can see in time for the happy ending. Not a fan of this book and its wild leaps."
