Not knowing action star royalty Liam Neeson is a bit unbelievable—or maybe not. After all, it’s been more than a decade since a clip from his hit movie Taken went viral for that iconic line he said to his daughter’s kidnapper. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who got chills running down my spine when he said “...I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.” It may have not been his first movie but it cemented his position as one of the best actions stars of his generation.
Liam Neeson is popularly known for his role in the action-thriller Taken trilogy but his acting portfolio boasts many box-office hits that are worth watching. He rose to prominence after he wowed everyone with his acting prowess in the critically acclaimed Steven Spielberg movie Schindler’s List. Since then, he has continuously starred in successful movies such as the 1998 film adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, the fourth installment of the science fiction movie franchise Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom of the Menace, the high fantasy movie series The Chronicles of Narnia where he voiced Aslan, and many more. Though not all of his works are gold, he does have a good amount of movies that you should definitely see. Before becoming the overprotective dad Bryan Mills in the iconic movie trilogy Taken, did you know that Liam Neeson almost played James Bond? If he didn’t pass the offer, he would’ve potentially starred in the GoldenEye, one of the best James Bond movies ever. At that time, Neeson cited the lack of interest in action movies as the reason which is a little funny as he’s now known as a prominent action star. It wasn’t until recently that he disclosed the real case for his refusal in an interview with U.K.’s Hull Daily Mail. It turns out that his then-girlfriend, the late Natasha Richardson, threatened him, “If you play James Bond we’re not getting married!” Imagine being torn between career or love. It must’ve been difficult but apparently, not for the Taken star. Neeson, who was so in love with her, threw away the chance of becoming the high profile Cassanova spy and married the love of his life. The missed opportunity barely left a dent on his career as he rose in popularity and starred in various box-office hits such as Star Wars, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the Taken Trilogy.
How he finally dipped into action movies is another interesting story. Liam Neeson was not the first choice for the lead role in Taken but after Jeff Bridges dropped out of the project, Liam accepted the role. He was certain that the film will flop but still hopped on so he can spend four months in Paris and have karate lessons all for free. The following success of the movie came as a surprise as well as the next two installments of the franchise. He has since then become a household name in action movies and if that’s your thing, you might be interested in our list of the best action movies.
