The concept of an online job search existed as early as the 1990s? The creation of the world’s first online job search and the first public résumé database happened in 1994. The company was then called The Monster Board. After merging and acquisition with other companies, it rebranded itself to Monster.com. The 1990s was a busy decade for the online job search industry. CareerBuilder started in 1995 which suffered through to the economic downturn in 2008. It still operates to this day and is one of the top 5 in the industry. HotJobs was born in 1996 and had a couple of acquisitions with Yahoo but landed with Monster.com in the end. Application Tracking Systems or ATS arrived in 1998. This helped to organize and filter all incoming job resumes and applications.
One of the biggest milestones in the online job search industry happened in 2003. LinkedIn arrived, founded by Reid Hoffman. It sought to become the first professional social media site for networking. It's still a popular site today to job seekers reach a broader audience with smartphone apps to go along with it. One feature was "LinkedIn Summary", a summary of your credentials and qualifications. Tutorials on how to write a LinkedIn summary was all over the Internet. It was a great benefit to potential job seekers. Linkedin summary examples for students also became popular. This helped them prepare for when they go out and look for jobs after graduation.
