"Picked this book up for my home schooled daughter to read for Black History Month (February). I figured since it won an ALA Carnegie Medal for Fiction it must be good. A series of quick reading short stories this held her attention and was very simple for her to read in a few days. She gave it two thumbs up, and is now reading another of Nguyen books(The Sympathizer)!"

"Looking for books with people of color in prominent roles used to be hard, but thankfully nowadays it's becoming more and more common. Having an asian girlfriend she is very happy to see people who look like her being more and more featured. She picked up this book based on the name and this review and she totally agreed it was awesome. In fact I read it after she was done and got a big kick out of it. The pages flew by, it's a page turner, and that's coming from someone who doesn't even typically read romance novels. Overall I recommend it big time if you're in the mood for some asian romance, or just a good book!"
