"This is the classic Japanese tale, the first novel, and it’s a fascinating look at midieval Japanese life. The language is beautiful and some credit needs to be given to the translator. I will admit that it’s not a page-turner but it’s worth a careful read."

"This book is one of the classics of the Medieval Period as the author, Snorri Sturluson, writes about giants, dwarves, elves, heroes and warrior queens. He gives us insight into the tales and legends of the Norse gods as they passed down from generation to generation. I found this to be a challenging read at times so I would recommend finding a nice, quiet space in order to take in as much of the detail as possible. A lot of current mythology in today's popular culture is based on these stories and legends so I would definitely recommend reading this book."

"I took my first class in college with a Harvard Professor who was a Chaucerian scholar. I remember sitting in class and listening to him read from the Canterbury Tales (with the full accent) and I ran out to the Coop later that day and found a tape of someone else reading the book in Middle English. I practiced and practiced and, while I still can't speak in Middle English, I can say more than a few lines! I love Chaucer. This is just a great, great poem that everyone should have some familiarity with. I know it feels dated, but it's just so important. It's one of the best sociological studies of the time. I highly recommend it!"
