DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that the number of fast food restaurants in the U.S. has more than doubled since the 1970s? This number is not surprising at all since fast food dining has seemed to be a staple on the eating habits of a lot of people. Americans are known for being unhealthy eaters. Data has proven that in the U.S., sugar, starch, cheese and red meat are consumed too much. Fruits and vegetables are also not seen in the same light as those above-mentioned foods by most. It is not that majority of Americans choose to eat unhealthy, greasy and fat food all the time. Sometimes, it is just that these are the types of food most available to them. It's easy to stop by McDonald's and pick up a Big Mac for a few bucks on your way to work, for example. This fast-food culture has been part of society, and businesses thrived through it. Between 2013 and 2016 alone, about 37 percent of U.S. adults consumed fast food on any given day.
One more thing, about 23 million Americans live in areas that are more than a mile away from a supermarket. This often leaves them with few options for choosing healthy food and ingredients for their meals. However, there are many ways that one can improve their eating habits. Planning the right meals can do it for starters. There are many diet and nutrition sites one can visit for a better understanding of a healthy diet. There are also apps that track micronutrients that everyone can download to make sure one is still healthy as can be. It is true that culture and convenience can change the eating habits of people, but health should still be the primary concern for everyone.
