"I found Into The Woods to be a good solution for this problem. It was a nicely made movie and had a nice storyline that I found interesting. It was a good movie overall though I found it to be one of the best movies that I have seen based on a Broadway Play."

"The producers is my long favorite movie that is based on Broadway musicals. It is a classic film with classic actors including Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Uma Thuman, and Will Ferrell. Of course, the soundtrack is the best too. "

"Being a fan of Richard Gere for a long time, I was attracted to this movie when it came out. I remember I went to see it in theater with my friends the very day it came out. It's a good mixture of fun, great acting and drama "

"I'm not a big fan of musicals, but I really enjoyed Sweeny Todd. There's nothing else like it. The musical bits fit well in the story, the subject matter is a lot different than what you'd normally come across in the genre, and the atmosphere is very absorbing. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to watch something both entertaining and eccentric."

"Well, if you start with one of the greatest Broadway musicals, then you're likely to have one of the best movies based on Broadway musicals. I was reasonably happy with this offering, but then I saw the Broadway play first. If you did so as well, then it may be hard to match that experience from film. It was definitely worth my time, but if you saw it originally with a top flight Broadway cast, then just go in with the expections that it will be very good, but probably not seem great to you."

"Although I think I actually liked the Broadway version better, this movie definitely stayed true to form. The cast was superb and actually pulled of the singing quite well. The sets were beautiful and, of course, the songs were wonderful. If you can't get to see this on stage, I would absolutely recommend watching this."

"I never got the hype on this. It is historically and biblically inaccurate. There are some positive, the production value and music were put together very well. Would not watch it again but was glad I saw it once. "

"The acting on Rent was top-notch and definitely did seem to be inspired by the musical (which I admit I'm not overly familiar with, just enough). The music alone makes it worth the price if nothing else. Good value for the money."

"West Side Story is a good adaptation of the musical of the same name. The actors do a solid job with the material, and the musical translates the New York setting well to the big screen. In hindsight, the casting of Natalie Wood to play a Puerto Rican character doesn't age terribly well, but the movie is bright, entertaining, and emotional, engaging the audience in the characters' hopes and tragedy.
