The film grossed over $300 million making it the highest-grossing sports film of all time followed by Adam Sandler’s The Waterboy with a domestic gross of $161.5 million. Aside from its box-office success, The Blind Side brought home notable awards. The film was nominated for Best Picture in the Academy Award while lead star Sandra Bullock won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, and the Academy Award for Best Actress.
The Blind Side is an American biopic sports movie based on the book written by Michael Lewis called The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. The film was written and directed by John Lee Hancock who also directed another inspirational sports movie, The Rookie, released in 2002. The film follows the early life of Michael Oher showing how he was introduced to sports and how he became a successful football offensive tackle. The film also stars Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron, Jae Head, and Lily Collins. Another fun fact about the movie’s casting is the first actress to be offered the lead role. Julia Roberts was initially offered to play Leigh Anne Tuohy. Sandra Bullock eventually got the role and the rest was history.
