"My favorite Amitabh Bachchan film. As an American who loves spaghetti westerns, Sholay has the same beauty and grit of a Sergio Leone film in a Bollywood package. Amitabh Bachan and Dharmendra are tremendous here. It has an extraordinary story, powerful dialogue, superlative acting, and fantastic cinematography. I cannot express further how much I love this movie. A masterpiece that deserves to be seen by everyone around the world and not just in India."

"A '70s Bollywood gem. The movie belongs to Amitabh as Anthony. He's so hilarious and charismatic in the role. The movie's treatment of religion as well is worth noting. Amar, Akbar, and Anthony might be of different faiths but the way they become attached is very touching and speaks about how Indians can be as one in spite of opposing beliefs. The brothers' respective romances were very entertaining, too. Excellent film worth watching!"

"A little dragging and trite for an Amitabh movie. It has the usual angsty story of an orphan toughened by a hard life who later discovers his true nature. We first see Bachchan in an exaggerated macho costume complete with an open shirt but later he goes into drag and it's stupefyingly insane and random. Still, Amitabh pulls it off as he's a reliable actor. Not great but I guess a kinda fun weird film."

"I remember watching this film when I was in high school and I bawled my eyes out at the ending. Ayesha Kapur was nothing short of amazing as the feral blind girl, but the movie belongs to Amitabh Bachchan as the teacher who later succumbs to Alzheimer's disease. It's a very tonally erratic film the way it shifts from comedy to drama but it worked. A+"

"One of the best Amitabh Bachchan movies ever, if not THE best. Excellent acting, direction, and writing. A must-see for lovers of Bollywood cinema. Mr. Bachchan won numerous acting awards for this and it's clear why. His portrayal of notorious Mumbai outlaw Vijay (based on real-life outlaw Haji Mastan) is captivating and mesmerizing. A classic!"

"What a magnificent movie! Bachchan played Don and Vijay exceptionally well. No wonder he won Best Actor. This is a typical Bollywood film so aside from being a thriller, it's also a musical. Great campy entertainment. The Shahrukh remake might have better production values but the original is way more fun."

"Zanjeer 1973 propelled Amitabh Bachchan from a well-known actor into a superstar. This movie was so fun - delicious revenge, nonstop action, beautiful music. Zanjeer is where Bachchan started his Angry Young Man schtick. The train murder scene was brilliant! "
