DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that in August 2017, a gaming company sued Nintendo for patent infringement with its release of the Switch gaming console into the US soil? A Los Angeles-based tablet manufacturer named Gamevice (formerly Wikipad) filed a lawsuit against Nintendo in 2017, citing that the newly released console is similar to the patent they filed for their upcoming debut product, the Wikipad, which was supposed to be an Android-supported tablet with removable controllers for a better gaming experience. Gamevice reportedly wanted payments for damages in the suit, along with the banning of Nintendo's prized console, but they voluntarily withdrew the suit in October of the same year.
In 2018, Gamevice once again sued Nintendo for patent infringement, this time for parts. The suit also requested damages and wanted to see the US government block the import of Nintendo's latest generation console. Gamevice's first gaming tablet, the WIkipad, received poor reviews from IGN because of poor build quality, lack of games, and outdated software. The company has dropped its project for an Android tablet, and has now turned its eyes to the peripherals market for Apple devices, as the California-based technology manufacturer is potentially looking to dip its toes into the gaming market.
