Science has shown that musical training can change the brain’s structure and functions. It can also improve one’s long-term memory that leads to better brain development. According to a research from University of Montreal study, musicians are prone to becoming more mentally alert compared to non-musicians. In 1990, the term Mozart effect was popularized to be the effect music has on the brain. It was theorized that listening to Mozart’s music is responsible for making kids smarter and so parents made their babies listen to the music of Mozart believing that it would give their brains an advantage before they were even born.  Another reason to expose our young ones early to music is a brain scanning study which found that anatomical changes in musicians’ brains have something to do with the age when training began. It basically means that the earlier someone is exposed to music the more impact it creates. Given that most of us are not professional musicians, we are still very much exposed to music. In fact, we listen to music for an average of 32 hours per week. Also, unlike ordinary brain-games, activities involving music and instruments is a more complex experience because it assimilates information from different senses.
