"Parenting is personal, so it's hard to say whether or not this book is a must read. I have a kid that eats everything (Satter is very concerned about getting your kid to grow up to be like that - to eat veggies and wholesome foods). I agree with the whole premise: feed your child what you eat (well, when they are eating solids). So, if you need a book that outlines that - go for it. There's even some good breastfeeding advice. Perhaps it's grounding to see what an 'expert' says and you need it. I don't know. It all seemed intuitive to me. But I did the whole attachment parenting thing, so I found this book unnecessary. "

"When our daughter was born, she'd just cry and cry. It got so bad I joked that we should dress her up in a mouse onesie and put her in our pet python's pen. Thankfully, because of Karp's helpful book, it never came to that. I mean, I was totally joking when I told my wife that, but still, the techniques in this book saved at least one of ours sanity. It is a bit dated, and somewhat repetitive in places though."

"On the one hand, Parenting By Heart has a lot of good advice. It has a consistent uplifting message and that's really good to read at an emotionally trying time. On the other, a lot of it is opinion couched as fact. Alongside practical advice is a lot of parenting opinions, and I didn't always agree with it. That's why it stood out to me, when I read it alongside my wife to support her - every now and then I just found myself taking issue with something presented as fact."
