DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that Japan honors detective fiction literature every year? The Mystery Writers of Japan Awards are presented every year by the Mystery Writers of Japan beginning in 1948. They award the Edogawa Rampo Prize to that year’s best mystery. It is an award similar to the Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Allan Poe Award. The Rampo Prize honors the best critical/biographical work in the crime/detective genre published the previous year. Japanese detective fiction is a popular genre of Japanese literature. It is generally called "Suiri sh?setsu" in Japan. Edogawa Rampo is the first Japanese modern mystery writer and the founder of the Detective Story Club. He gained his fame in the early 1920s when he began to bring to the genre many bizarre elements. This genre was partly influenced by elements of Western literature.
After World War II, the detective fiction genre was renamed deductive reasoning fiction. This is seen as the predecessor of the mystery genre. Today, the mystery genre has gained a lot of popularity. It also has included non-fictional stories and more realistic elements. There have been different variations such as horror mystery anime, thriller anime, and supernatural anime. It has also been a predominant genre in anime. There are different mystery anime shows and mangas that have been published in Japan. A lot of these have been translated into English for Western audiences. You can watch these mystery anime in different websites available.
