"I was really hoping this book would have more inspirational material but it really was a straight forward book that teaches different Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu techniques. There is also a good focus on the life of Andre Galvao and how he got to this point of Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu. I really wished they would've focused more on his life and journey than the technique of Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu. Overall it was OK. I liked half of it."

The story paints a picture of what gang life in Los Angeles at peak in the 80s were like. Stanley's story is personal and shares his what he had to go through because he was involved in this lifestyle. "This book was a bit dry and hard to read at times, and it seems like the author could have done a better job of conveying what I expected to be an exciting story of a notorious gangster. I bought this for my dear friend's teenage son and they are from Brooklyn, so he found it really cool! However, I did a "pre-read" just to make sure it was appropriate and wouldn't traumatize him. I'm hoping he'll find it way more exciting than I did since he has quite a bit of curiosity when it comes to old time American gangster and mob tales. "

"Carl Sagan's "The Cosmic Connection" is an enjoyable and easy-to-read survey of science and astronomy, circa 1973. Sagan's passion for his subjects comes through loud and clear in the essays that comprise this book. Reading this book is a little like watching "Cosmos" -- you're struck by the breadth of Sagan's knowledge and charmed by his imagination and wide-eyed enthusiasm for his topics. Sagan has a flair for making science accessible to the masses. He explores topics such as planetary exploration, the origins of life, and, of course, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Readers who liked "A Brief History of Time" will probably enjoy "The Cosmic Connection." The epilogue, which provides a year 2000 update for many of the chapters, is a valuable addition to this classic book. "

"Kristen Laine certainly produced a piece of well written literature covering the teenage lives for a nationally ranked High School marching band. Unfortunately, I felt quite disinterested as I had problems relating to the topic. Certainly some topics and components were relate-able, but most of it did not apply if you were never a part of a nationally competing activity or a fan of marching bands."
