"Wifi Map, does what it's supposed to. It's as simple as that. I haven't had any issues and so far out of the ten Wifi apps on my phone this one is the only one that doesn't give me a bunch of issues. Easily one of the best I've found so far."

"I've tried a slew of Wifi Finders. So far OpenSignal works pretty good. It doesn't crash like a lot of the other apps that I've used. I'm hoping for some updates soon to polish it a bit but otherwise, I'd say it's useful."

"I installed WiFiMapper with high hopes. At first, it worked great. I was really impressed. It has a great database with lots of spots available. However, it has no way to save a list for viewing offline. I don't get this. I have to be connected to wifi, to find wifi. There is a flaw in this system! I'm keeping it installed and hoping a new update will fix this issue."

WHAT’S THE MEANING?

Open Wi-Fi connections are unsecured Wi-Fi networks. That is, they are Wi-Fi connections that are not password-protected. In contrast, secured Wi-Fi networks require users to input a password that conforms to a security protocol. When a user is connected to an open Wi-Fi network, they are exposing their device and their browsing traffic to anyone else who may be using the network. In a secured network with protected access, encryption protocols are in effect to provide additional security.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the term ‘Wi-Fi’ was coined as a play on hi-fi, or high fidelity? It was not meant to be an abbreviated version of wireless fidelity. The Wi-Fi Alliance, owner of the Wi-Fi trademark, chose the name Wi-Fi to refer to wireless networks. It was coined to replace the official name “IEEE 802.11b Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum.”

Since the invention of the progenitor of the 802.11 protocol in 1991 and its subsequent commercial release in 1997, Wi-Fi has become the dominant method of accessing the internet. The proliferation of Wi-Fi networks has greatly attributed to the continuous increase of Internet users. At present, more than 4 billion of the world’s population are Internet users, which translates to a 54.4% penetration rate.

"TWC Wifi Finder isn't terrible. It does what it's supposed to but man, it kills my battery quick. I also noticed that it has a hard time swapping between home/work networks if you have connected to other wifi. Hopefully there are fixes coming because all in all, it does what it's supposed to do."

"This app gives me the ability to scan for available WiFi near me by showing you wifi locations nearby on a map. The reviews for this app seam low but I am not sure why because i have used it and it works fine for me. You can even filter by the type of location with free WiFi. "This tool helps me find trusted and safe WiFi connections near me. It also helps me stay safe while i am using the connection from hackers identity theft. You can also view a network and make sure only your device is connected to it. A tool like this could make you feel more safe about connecting with sensitive data to a public network."

"WiFi Finder is a good app for those who travel and need to find open WiFi broadcast points, though it does not always work flawlessly. Occasionally, it will detect a fair amount of closed channels that cannot be accessed. If it can only find a handful of routers in an area, and none appear to be from recognizable businesses, you might not be able to get on any of them. Nevertheless, I'd recommend it for travelers who visit fairly dense urban areas."

If you currently reside in the UK and like having fast internet everywhere you go then "Sky WiFi Finder" is a must download. I was visiting the UK the other month and instead of paying for an international plan with my phone carrier I decided to take my chances with this app and it worked exactly as advertised. "
