DID YOU KNOW

Did you know that Netflix, one of the world's most famous producer and distributor of streamable audio-visual content, started as an online DVD rental store? Netflix, which is a known platform where people could watch Stranger Things, House of Cards and Narcos, was initially built as a way to rent DVDs by mail and by the internet. It was created by Marc Randolph, who once co-founded one of the first computer mail-order companies in the USA, and Reed Hastings, a philanthropist investor, and Randolph's former boss in another company. It was launched on April 14, 1998, as the first online DVD rental store and a courageous challenger to the traditional rental store, Blockbuster.

Because DVDs and the Internet were luxuries at the time, Netflix struggled in their first four years, only seeing the potential profit when DVD players became cheaper and most houses had Internet access. According to the website The Economist, Netflix mailed out 1 million DVDs a day in 2005. After Youtube made video-on-demand and streaming the trend in distributing entertainment, Netflix chose to adapt to stay afloat. Netflix launched its first V.O.D service as Watch Now, but rebranded it as Netflix and began producing original content.  In an article in Recode.net, Netflix's subscription grown exponentially, from 300,000 subscribers in the US in 2000 to 117.6 million from 190 countries in 2018. Netflix now has a wide variety of content dedicated to viewers and subscribers all over the world. From the most popular TV series to award-winning films, romantic flicks, comedy tv shows, drama, horror or party movies, and their original content, name it and they most probably have it.

"I randomly chose a movie on netflix to put on at a party and had no intention of many people attentively watching it. It was a party after all! I chose Bridesmaids, a classic as they say. Well a few people started watching it, and I guess their laughter drew more and more people in the party. Before I knew it, the entire party was crowded around my watches having a great time watching Bridesmaids! It was hilarious! Although the party didn't go as it did in my head, I'm glad everyone had a great time. I'll be throwing more parties with movies likes Bridesmaids playing in the background."

"A very bizarre movie. After seeing it I wasn't sure if I like it or not. While you're watching it you experience a lot of strange feelings, like the main characters, and after seeing it you have the sensation that you have traveled into a psychotropic dream and come back to the real world suddenly... All is very strange but appealing and the same time... so I think I liked it and I recommend it to everyone who wants to experiment with another kind of cinema."

"If we put in the same movie Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and other great comedians acting as themselves and waiting for the Apocalypse, what we have? Yes, what you expect is what you get. Maybe the end of this film is a bit weak compared with the rest, but anyway is an enjoyable film, especially if you like movies from the couple Rogen+Goldberg (creators of Superbad and Pineapple Express)."

"Ok, this is not a great movie like Citizen Kane but, for me, this is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen! All the scenes on American Pie are hilarious (not only the "famous" one) and, unlike other 90's comedies, American Pie doesn't look old, it's still a good movie to have fun with your friends. Did you have a bad day? Take a look at this movie and you'll forget all your problems for the next 90 minutes!"

"I didn't expect too much from this movie so I was very surprised after seeing it. Project X is an entertaining comedy with some gags really fun, good actors (and the majority of them debuted in this movie!) and it remains me one classic from the 70s: Animal House. We can say this movie is "the Animal House" of this current generation. Recommended if you like teen comedies and tons of party!"

"An instant classic! The Hangover is not only one of the funniest comedies of this century but the movie when we met a bunch of excellent comedians: Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper... Their chemistry is excellent and, even they're in a trouble almost all the movie, you want to be part of their crazy gang the whole time!"

"If you have late 70's nostalgia and you are a KISS fan you'll like this movie. It doesn't have the most original screenplay a movie could have, the actors could act better but its fabulous soundtrack (KISS... but also Thin Lizzy, Pantera AC/DC, Black Sabbath...) and all the references to rock music deserve a view!!"

"Another example of a movie with a deeper and serious underlying message. Just like with most teen movies full of crude sexuality and juvenile behavior, it's less about those things and more about the feeling of wanting to fit in and be accepted. The cast and good performances from the cast only make the whole thing more relatable."

"This movie is old but gold!! One of the best 70's comedies so far, with a great cast (John Belushi was the best!!) and a lot of hilarious situations. I have seen, at least, five or six times and now with Netflix I can repeat whenever I want. If you like college movies I recommend you this one, you want regret! "

"Funny comedy about music, fame and what happens when you have to deal with a crazy rock star. Russell Brand character is really hilarious and he has good chemistry with the other main character of the film, portrayed by Jonah Hill. If you liked The Hangover you will love this movie too."
