"While Xiaopan does happen to be very portable, it is actually an operating system specifically tuned for penetration testing. You will find little here in terms of user-friendly features. You will find very little here in terms of every day use in general. This OS is a well-oiled machine for testing web web vulnerabilities, if you happen to be in the small percentage of people that have the need to do such a thing."

"I love my Macbook, but I don't like being constrained to the OS. That's where Ubuntu is a really terrific add-on to my laptop. It's an open source OS that let's me do everything Mac's OS can without some of the proprietary hassles. I'm an Ubuntu convert!"

"Light and versatile, Damn Small Linux offers a lot of basic applications that can be used within another operating system. It's small enough to fit on a pen drive, though. Just a neat, neat thing to have in a pinch."

"If you want to get into using Linux but you don't know what you can handle, I recommend starting right here with Knoppix. Starting from scratch can be really difficult, but the Knoppix system was pretty inclusive and had just about everything I needed for my computer to work with the software. It was able to integrate with my audio/graphics hardware without trouble and I've never had a problem with any externals I have to connect. It made the transition from other UI to Linux so smooth for me. If you've got dreams of using Linux or GNU, this one's for you."

"I use Puppy Linux on my laptop for speed and ease. It's a much better alternative to Windows because it doesn't take up nearly as much memory and resources, making it much faster and less prone to errors. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a Windows, but it makes up for it with an easy installation and responsive operating system. "

"I am unsure of Slax. The website itself looks very shady because of its simplicity and lack of information. I would not download for fear of getting malware on my PC. Proceed at your own risk."
