DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that the longest commercial flight time was set for 19 hours? The record was set by Singapore Airlines for a flight from Singapore to New York. The record-breaking flight covered a distance of 10,400 miles (16,700 km) and 12 time zones using an Airbus A350-900ULR . The flight beat the record previously held by Qatar Airways. Their route from Auckland to Doha is traveled with a 17 hours and 40 minutes, covering a total of 9,032 miles. Meanwhile, the record for the world's shortest flight is for less than 2 minutes. The flight by Loganair takes a route between Westray and Papa Westray, two of the Orkney Islands that sit just north of Scotland in the UK. This flight covers only 1.7 miles, which is about 6,110 times less than the world’s longest flight.
The short Loganair flight charges only an equivalent of $27. On the other hand, the long Singapore-New York round trip in December 2018 starts at about 4,100 Singapore dollars or $2,968. Different flights obviously charge different rates. However, wherever travelers want to go, there are existing resources to track flights and prices.
