Unittest is a unit testing framework that supports test automation, the setup and shutdown code for tests, the aggregation of tests into collections and many other features like, for example, the independence of the tests from the reporting framework, and providing classes to make it easier to support this features.

"Unittest is a good tool for Python developers. It's the standard testing framework in our office. Nobody has found a reason to abandon it, so we're sticking with it."

Nose is a unit testing framework for python that extends the test loading and running features of unittest, making it easier to write, find and run tests.

"While Nose is a good and reasonably simple unit testing framework, let's not forget that it also has discovery functions as well as execution functions. In other words, it has to be able to find your tests in order to run them. This can be a little tricky to set up if you haven't used it before, so if you're just looking for best unit testing frameworks, the setup issues might be seen as a complication. On the other hand, it has some very nice features, especially the plugin system, so I would say in general it's a good solution fo the experienced Python unit tester. "
