"If you know little about Turing’s accomplishments and life, this movie is a thought-provoking and helpful introduction to further reading. It is largely Hollywood drama, but in the Amazon version, some of the inaccurate Hollywood elements are noted and explained in comments in the margin of the screen. For more accuracy and coverage of his personal life, you need to watch a documentary. My 5/5 rating is for how well this movie meets a much more modest and realistic goal—showing people that they need to know Turing’s name and the significance of his work"

"While My Left Foot is an incredible film, it doesn't solely take place during the 1950s. Daniel Day Lewis is an ungodly actor who brings the character to life. But the time period spans the life of the man Lewis portrays, Christy Brown. If you're looking for a movie that's just about life in the 50's, this may not be for you. I'd still recommend it if you're looking for a really touching film, though."

"Black Girl is an amazing movie about life in the 1950s era. This is an impressive look into the life and times, complete with the celebration and challenges of the day. It is often difficult to imagine the hardships of the days, but this motion picture experience captures the feel and emotion very well. I felt a lot of emotion and empathy in this movie."

"Goodfellas is not really set in the 50's. Part of it is set in the 50's but it is not like the many other period pieces available. That being said it is one of the greatest gangster/mob movies of all time."
