"I don't know that this directly answers the Topic because it's not recommended by "former Muslims" so much as it was written by a current Muslim (who Google tells me still holds her faith 15 years later). It's also a bit dated, but sounds like an interesting and useful background as to why some Muslims may have lost their faith since it lacked an "Islam-lite" option."

"I tried to read this book but couldn't get more than halfway through before I put it down. It's nothing more than propaganda to make it look like all Muslim women are treated like garbage. I'm sure that's not the truth. It's pretty obvious by reading this that the author is on a campaign here against the religion that she was brought up in. I don't care either way, but I'm not wasting my time on someone's rant."

"Religion has always been an interesting subject to me. As an atheist I like to read others experiences with their religions. I read Why I am Not a Muslim. The book made some good points that I could understand if I were in the authors shoes. It was good food for thought."

"Meyebela follows the story of a young woman born on a Muslim holy day in a small rural village of east pakistan. The book follows her childhood journey and is both eyeopening and shocking to read her account. While the book has a good premise, it is oftentimes diffuclt to follow. There are a multitude of other books written by former Muslims that do a better job decribing childhood in a muslim rural village."

"Infidel is a book that would be a good recommendation for anyone wishing to understand the Muslim way of life more. I really have a lot of respect for the culture thanks to the book. I really wish more people here would read it so that Muslims can stop being everyone's boogeyman in the states."

"As a christian, I wanted to read a book written by a muslim. I decided to give Allah, Liberty and Love a shot. It was interesting, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I enjoyed it far more for its feminist tones then the musilm ones. "
