"I recently watched the movie that was based on the book and I had to run out and get a copy of the book. I always find the imagery and imagination in the book to let me fall deeper into the story. This book did not disappoint as the story is still as powerful as ever, but I did find the writing to feel more literary than emotional. It may have been because I saw the movie first, but I never really got that deep connection with the characters as I was hoping to in the book. It’s a unique book and one that is worth the time to read for sure. "

"By far the best book recommended to me by NBC's Today Show was The Kitchen House. Great historical fiction about Lavinia, an Irish immigrant working as a kitchen maid. It really takes you back to the plantation days before the Civil War. Being biracial I can relate to some of the discrimination she endured. "

"Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is not bad by any means, but it's a typical blast-to-the-past type plot where the main character goes back to the 1940's to live life during the war. It's interesting, and it definitely had its good spots, but there were a few boring stretches. It's worth a read, if nothing else, but I certainly wouldn't rush out to get it."
