DID YOU KNOW?
The Resident Evil game that we know and love here in the West is actually called Biohazard in Japan. It was being developed for the PlayStation back in 1996. Since then, it has become one of the most popular horror game franchise in the history of the console. Its success has spawned a total of 24 main titles and spin-offs. It also spawned complimentary movies to the main story. The story revolved around an abandoned mansion in the outskirts of Racoon City. It actually was a secret virus testing facility that our protagonists investigate. The events that transpired in this mansion was the main scope of the first couple of games.
The release of Resident Evil 2 helped popularize the survival horror genre. This game also marked a departure in the series' story. From relative isolation that it had in the mansion to overrunning the whole of Racoon City. Each iteration of the series pushes the story forward on to newer locations. As well as the introduction of new characters, new and old, minor and major. The story has become convoluted after the first trilogy. With an overabundance of new characters and storylines, it was hard to follow already. It was difficult to find the best resident evil games to play and follow the story along. The release of the recent Resident Evil 2 remake marks a return to the series' roots. Its reception was positive and shows what we can expect moving forward.
